Seeing Stars for the month of March 2010

NEW MOON at 25 degrees PISCES 10 min 8:01 am AEDT on 16 MARCH 2010

New Moons are a time that promotes all forms of growth whether this be a rich time for instigating new ventures or a potent time for making wishes that stimulate new beginnings in our lives. As in the February’s New Moon there is a clustering of planets within an orb or 30 degrees, but with this New Moon that cluster sees a predominance of planets in Pisces.

Pisces is the last sign of the Sun’s zodiacal journey representing the final stage in the evolution of consciousness and here we need to ‘close accounts’ to unlearn and give up set ideals in readiness for a journey into a new world.

This not only applies on an individual level but also a collective effort is needed because if we are to achieve organic wholeness we must see ourselves as part of some Greater Whole.

Pisces must not be considered only as a sign of social or mystical openness for in its sea depths there is violence and storm. Nothing can be more devastating than the tidal wave or sea-born hurricane. We need to face these forces of nature because this is the end of a cycle and within its vital depths the beginnings of New Life.

Nothing is produced vitally anew which does not emerge from the depths or ‘sea’ and birth in Aries, the beginning sign of the wheel of life means having passed through this dark realm. Rebirth in Aries means having faced what Joseph Campbell calls the “Guardian of the Threshold” overcoming the terrors and winning the encounter.

This New Moon has Venus in Aries, the first of the planets leading the way into the future. Venus is not just the planet of love and relationships but is also about clarifying our identity by defining what we value and desire. We could say that it is the beginning of defining our value system and acknowledging and standing up for what we desire.

The close conjunction of Mercury and Uranus in Pisces offers us a unique opportunity to visualise and dream about how to create a better lifestyle. We have reached the end of the zodiacal year and hence have come full cycle straddling the past and the future. Here we must choose the seeds to plant for the future.

FULL MOON at 9 degrees LIBRA  17 minutes 8:01 am AEDT 30th March

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

Generally Blue Moons occur around every 2 and a half years but 2010 has a rare double with January 1st and 30th and March 1st (see February column) and March 30th. Two Blue Moons a year only occur four or five times every one hundred years. The modern term (since around 1940s) for a Blue Moon was two Full Moons in a month but in the Maine Farmers Almanac of 1819 the term was used to label the third Full Moon in a season, which has four. The phase has come to mean a not-common event.

It is important to remember that each Full Moon has its own unique magic and mystery associated with it and is an opportunity to experience greater illumination regardless of whether it is a Blue Moon or not, so saying celestial happenings are not random events but have predictable and orderly movements.

For astrologers Full Moons indicate a time of culmination, of release and letting go for when the Moon is at her fullest and brightest enlightenment is also possible. We therefore have two opportunities this month to bring something to a conclusion or a culmination in some way.

Objectivity is the name of the game and relationships are often highlighted, as are the matters in the houses of your horoscope being activated by the Full Moon.

What did we visualise at the New Moon two weeks ago? With this Full Moon in Libra, what needs to come back into balance in our lives and that of the universe? The Sun has joined Mercury and Venus in Aries, the sign representing forthrightness and new beginnings. Self-reliant, direct and a straightforward or risk-taking approach needs to be tempered with evaluation and mutual benefit. Moving forward with the courage of our convictions but still considering all points of views. When is it better to collaborate rather than compete?

Pluto squares off to the Sun and Moon giving ability to venture into the underworld of your psyche allowing a connection with that reservoir of inner resources that allows a connection to inner power. Journeying into the depths you are also able to perceive the depths in others forgoing the need to wield power in relationships.

COSMOS

PISCES
With a line up of no less than 5 planets in your sign till mid-month you would do well to seize this celestial opportunity and make some much needed changes in your life. It needs to be all about you at the moment the time for reflection is passed and with the New Moon in your sign on the 16th a time for new beginnings and new ventures is on hand. Gather your courage and go forth.

ARIES
Start of the week has you chaffing at the bit and feeling hemmed in by the restrictions placed on you. This discontent may cause disagreements but by Wednesday the 10th when Mars goes direct after almost 3 months things will start progressing as you would like. A word of caution though, it will take some weeks for Mars to gather momentum so curb your impulsiveness and don’t rush into anything just yet.

TAURUS
The desire for change is upsetting your equilibrium, stirring up relationship issues and intensifying personal matters. A bit of soul searching is needed here as you may be holding onto something that needs letting go of. Known for letting life slip into a comfortable rut you may have to seize the bull by the horns and make a few hard decisions to bring you out of your comfort zone.

GEMINI
There may be a lot of planning going on but little action actually taken to implement them. This is fine as there is still a lot that needs clarifying and perhaps you are being too easily influenced by others to be able to see clearly. Mid-month has an increase in your powers of observation and you are able to gain a quicker grasp and understanding of the situation at hand.

CANCER
The month starts off with feelings of loneliness and isolation and don’t seem to get much better as a sense of duty has you gritting your teeth and enduring. This is an edgy time and you soon realise that playing the martyr isn’t much fun after a while particularly as you are being accused of being moody. Snap yourself out of it and cheer yourself up, at the same time by trying something new and exciting.

LEO
The start of the month may see you biting off more than you can chew as the Sun and Jupiter align giving optimism and enthusiasm a huge boost. Mid month may see you having to make sudden financial decisions, which are held jointly with another person. As the Sun moves into Aries on the 21st you may start to look seriously at an overseas holiday or furthering your education.

VIRGO
Relationship issues are at the forefront for you this month and you may feel like you are the only one having to make sacrifices. With the New Moon in your opposing sign of Pisces on the 16th this is an ideal time to face those issues you have perhaps been avoiding. Relationships are all about giving and taking and when Mercury enters Aries on the 18th you gain the courage to state your case.

LIBRA
Health and fitness are of a concern for you so use the impetus of the Full Moon in your sign at the end of the month to make a conscious decision to let go of those unhealthy eating habits that may have got out of hand since Christmas. You shouldn’t put it off any longer to implement a healthier diet and look into an exercise program that suits your lifestyle even if initially this causes disruption. A partner may join you.

SCORPIO
With a line-up of planets in your solar fifth house of love and relationships you can be forgiven if your thoughts have turned to romance. You may have to get over a few of those idealised views you have and make some concessions, as your expectations are not always realistic. This could be the cause of any frustration you may be experiencing so chill out a bit.

SAGITTARIUS
No-one can accuse you of being a homebody but that must be how you’re feeling, caught up in affairs in and around the house. Parental concerns may also be troubling as you try and fulfil your obligations. It’s hard to gain any clarity on the situation making it difficult to come up with a plan of action. Help arrives at the end of the month when you are able to meet half way.

CAPRICORN
You may be finding it extremely difficult to get your point of view across and if this is the case the problem could stem from a lack of sensitivity to differing points of view. Generally great at taking charge and implementing what needs to be done frustration arises when the goal posts keep changing. It is better to delay until all is clear, then the resistance will fall away.

AQUARIUS
You really do need to keep a tight rein on your spending otherwise impulse buying will blow the budget right out the window. It is no good deluding yourself that if you have this or that things will improve for you. Tangible possessions tend to give a quick fix solution so you may be better off listening to that inner voice that knows of better ways to make you feel more secure.
