Wanda to host NSW Surf Premiership Series

Wanda SLSC is to host the second round of the NSW Surf Premiership series on November 29. The first round is to be held on November 1 at Towradgi Surf Club in the Illawarra. Round 1 entries will close at 5pm Wednesday 22 October 2008

This year the NSW Surf Premiership is open to proficient 13 and 14 year olds. Entry fees for these age groups are free of charge to promote participation and grass roots development.

Round 2 is to be held at Wanda SLSC on November 29, while round 3 is at Redhead SLSC on January 3, 2009. Round 2 entries will close at 5pm Wednesday 19 November 2008, while Round 3 entries will close at 5pm Wednesday 24 December 2008.


Three teams compete for soccer’s Champion of Champions titles

Three local teams have successfully won through to soccer’s champion of champion trophy games on October 26 at Valentine Sports Park, Football NSW headquarters. 
The Champion of Champion tournaments are held between winners of the various grades from football associations across NSW.

Lilli Pilli, Menai Hawks and Bosco each have one team competing for the titles. The results of the semi-finals and the draw for the finals on October 26 follow:

Under 15 Men: 
S/F: Lilli Pilli 2 Peakhurst United 1
F:  Lilli Pilli v Wakehurst S C at 8.30am

Under 16 Men:
S/F: Lilli Pilli 0 Eastwood St Andrews 1
Lilli Pilli were eliminated

Under 21 Men:
S/F: Menai Hawks 1 Carlingford Redbacks 0
F: Menai Hawks v Hurlstone Park at 1.30pm

Over 35 Men:
S/F: Sylvania Heights 0 West Ryde Rovers 3
Sylvania Heights were eliminated

Under 18 Women:
S/F: Bosco 3 Unanderra 2
F:  Bosco v Hurlstone Park at 9.45am

Sharks players in All Star Spectacular

The Parramatta Basketball Association will host its biggest event of the year on Saturday night (Oct 18), when two of the strongest basketball teams available in the off-season meet in an "All-Star Challenge". The Gala Night commences at 6pm with a three-point shooting contest and this will undoubtedly enthral the fans, as some of Sydney's best shooters gather to determine who is the cream of the crop.

The All-Star game will follow at 7pm, with a very new-look Parramatta Wildcats team taking on an "All-Star" team containing a 'who's who' of basketball in this city. The Wildcats will be headed by three of its established stars in Goran Veg, Charles Bloemen and Andre Boykin, whilst newcomers Eban Hyams (Singapore Slingers NBL), Terry Amir (Bankstown Bruins WABL), three-point sharp-shooter Adi Causevic and former Wildcat and Sydney Kings NBL centre Anthony Susnjara are among the new faces.

The All-Stars are headed by four current or former NBL players in BJ Carter (Sydney Kings/Sutherland Sharks), Blake Borgia (Sydney Kings), David Pollard (Sydney Spirit) and Luke Brennan (Sydney Kings), along with a star-studded support cast from other WABL teams including Rod Proctor from the Sutherland Sharks.

Ticket prices are a very reasonable $5 per head.

Community Fun Run/Walk

Pounded the pavement in July’s Sutherland to Surf? It's time to feel the sand between the toes in one, of both of the events below. Prizes are up for grabs in both events for males, females, over 40s and under 18s.

Surf Life Saving’s 2008 National Leadership Challenge

Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) is now seeking enrolment applications for places at the 2008 National Leadership College to be held at Sydney University, 1 - 6 December 2008. SLSA has created a new 'college' style of leadership training specially designed for its members. SLSA promises participants will spend six amazing days with their Surf Life Saving mates, will learn a lot about leadership but probably more about themselves.

Participants will be bursting with ideas and confidence and they will know exactly how to direct that energy when they get back to their club, and what would a week of college be without some challenging activities, fun and games.
