Seeing Stars
by Patricia Shepherd

Seeing Stars for the week beginning 23 June 2008

The Astrological planets and their core meanings

CANCER

Here in the Southern Hemisphere Cancer signifies our Winter Solstice and it gets off to a good start for our crabs as the Moon today forms what is called a Mystic Rectangle so past conflict or discord can be resolved.

LEO

You really have the drive to turn things around but only if you face up to your own shortcomings and stop projecting onto other people. Your self-confidence increases as you let go of the façade.

VIRGO

Group activities or commitment to the team take on new meaning for you this month as you find yourself having to adapt to circumstances with more being accomplished by fostering a caring, family like environment.

LIBRA

You are attracting the right people at the moment so if advancement is on your agenda, those in authority are more inclined to look favourably as you go about your business in your usual charming manner.

SCORPIO

With your two rulers Mars and Pluto in favourable aspect for the next few weeks they are giving you every support they can so utilise the time well by initiating those business connections that will come home to roost.

SAGITTARIUS

A couple of planetary indications suggest the wisdom of going on a journey that has less to do with the miles you physically cover and more to do with an inner searching of self enquiry and discovery.

CAPRICORN

The action for you this month sees a lot of focus around the seventh house of personal, business or any other type of relationships and is a time when it is better to accomplish things through a partnership rather than alone.

AQUARIUS

Don’t leave it till the end of winter but tune into the universe and put a health and fitness regime in place. You may not like to admit it but as a fixed sign you do respond to a bit of routine.

PISCES

With Mars opposing Neptune for much of the week your physical vitality may be quite low so make sure you rug yourself up when necessary and try and avoid stressful situations.

ARIES

If you are a gambling person this is not the week to take any unnecessary risks or participate in anything of a speculative nature. Things are not clear and this can include anything of a romantic nature. Trust may be misplaced.

TAURUS

With both Venus and the Sun camping out in your third house you can expect local environment or neighbourhood issues to come to the fore this month. You may also feel as if you are living in your car.

GEMINI

With Mercury having the breaks released last week and now in direct motion again try not to go into overdrive scattering your thoughts and energy. If you can keep your mind clear negotiations may begin.

THE ASTROLOGICAL PLANETS AND THEIR CORE MEANINGS

The Solar System is a unit and each body in it is therefore a constituent of that unit. In astrology nothing stands by itself; we can’t say anything without considering the entire horoscope. A sense of the whole chart is always more indicative than each placement considered individually.

THE SUN

The planets in our Solar System revolve around the Sun, so the symbolic astrological Sun is the basic energy of which all the other planetary energies are specialised reflections. It represents light, consciousness and the yang, an active energising principle that is the source of all motion.

The Sun is the archetype of the hero and being progressive it is the active, dynamic principle, which unfolds during the course of a lifetime. You can be quite correct when you state, “I am nothing like my Sun sign”, for we never really finish developing our Sun sign. It is the aspect of our personality that is always in a process of becoming, of moving toward some future vision or goal.

Joseph Campbell writes about the hero who sets out into the world, undergoing severe trials in order to prove his strength and worthiness, especially against the powers of darkness. Just as modern man, born and raised within a family, religion and community seeks to find not only himself but also his purpose in life. We too struggle with our demons in the search for knowledge and fulfilment.

There is always a problem of suffering - loneliness, isolation, guilt and the enmity of others when our Sun begins to emerge. We are moving from the comfort of the safe and familiar in order to seek our own path. This is why it is said our Sun only really emerges at midlife when we are sufficiently strong enough to meet the challenges.

Next week:  New Moon in Cancer
