Crusaders too strong for Sharks in WABL
Following last weekend's 33 point crushing of the Canberra Nationals, the Central Coast 'Oxigen' Crusaders were again in outstanding form as they outclassed reigning premiers the Sutherland Sharks 96-79 in round 6 of the men's Waratah Australian Basketball League at Bridgecoast Stadium, Terrigal.
A fine shooting display from sharp shooters Stefan Blaszczynski (28 points), Noman Shoaib (18 points) and Tim Hudson (16 points) lead the Crusaders charge, whilst Brett Wilcox brought down 19 rebounds (16 defensive) and Kristian Blaszczynski finished with a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds).
Rod Proctor was strong for the Sharks with 21 points, but was unable to get his team on top of the Crusaders, who led the way all game.
The win over Sutherland confirmed the Crusaders status as a genuine title contender in the 2008 Waratah Australian Basketball League. The Crusaders State League men also defeated Sutherland 76-63. From www.waratah.basketball.net.au 14s continue unbeaten as 13s lose first game
In last weekend’s Premier Youth League round Sutherland Sharks 13s had their first loss to 4th placed Blacktown but still remain on top of table. In a hard fought match the 13s came off second best by 1 nil.
Sutherland’s 14s retained their unbeaten record with a win over Blacktown who were previously in second spot.
The Sharks 15s were no match for second placed Blacktown. In the 16s both Sutherland and Blacktown are low in the table and his was reflected in a hard fought nil all draw.
In the 18s bottom placed Sutherland was not able to match the table topping Blacktown team but surprised their opponents by scoring two goals in the 6 – 2 loss.
Results of all round 7 games between Sutherland Sharks and Blacktown City were:
Under 13: Sutherland lost 1 nil
Under 14: Sutherland won 4 nil
Under 15: Sutherland lost 3 nil
Under 16: Sutherland lost 6 - 2

The Wanda SLSC Sutherland to Surf (sponsored by Brooks Fitness First) is the major community participatory event in the Shire and is recognised as the lead up race for the City to Surf. This year it is to be held on Sunday 28 July.
This great community event is held in July each year. The Sutherland to Surf event brings more than 5000 competitors to race, wheel or walk 11kms from Sutherland Entertainment Centre to Wanda Beach.
As part of the Sutherland to Surf, there is the Tradies Pro-Sprint category. This category comprises the first 100 fastest seeded competitors and attracts top class runners from the Australian Institute of Sport. The Tradies Pro-Sprint offers prize money to the first top four male and female competitors. The winners have gone on to be major place getters in the high profile Sun-Herald City to Surf.
