Renee Colhoun – a healthy balance

Much like the famous TV advert, she liked the business so much she decided to buy it

Renee is the owner of Engadine Beauty Centre, a business she purchased 13 years ago. She originally started as an employee and, with the help and encouragement of her family, bought the business and made it her own.

At the Engadine Beauty Centre, Renee’s clients – both men and women – can pick from a number of services, including waxing, nails, facials, tanning and make-up application to help maintain and enhance their physical appearance. Renee loves the “happy and positive vibe” she gets through her clients. Most of her clients have been coming to the salon for some time and Renee feels fortunate to have been able to develop some great friendships.

For Renee, a healthy balance between work and social activities is very important to her. It’s this balance that she credits as one of the main reasons for her success as she can switch off from the business in her downtime and actually relax. Equally important to her success is having a strong network of supportive friends and family who have provided comfort, support and showed trust and faith in her abilities, right from the beginning.

As well as learning the mechanics of the business, Renee says she always considers the customer right in what they want when the come into the salon. As a beauty therapist, Renee sees it as vital that every client leaves feeling happy and satisfied.

Renee never stops educating herself about the industry and stays abreast of the latest trends and technologies. Recently, she, with a little bit of help, designed a new facial room at the salon and took on the role of interior decorator, something she described as very exciting.

A Shire resident all of her life, Renee takes the odd trip to the South Coast where she has a caravan, giving her a break from her day-to-day routines. Whether at home or down the coast, Renee likes to keep company with her family and friends and they always remain close by.

With a business that requires a lot of sitting and talking, Renee likes to take a walk or go to the gym before and after work. This provides her with her physical outlet each day as well as keeping her fit and maintaining high energy levels.

With a well established business and one that has a high percentage of repeat customers, Renee is proud of what she has achieved, particularly that she has been able to show her family and friends that the faith and trust they showed in her all those years ago wasn’t misplaced. She can confidently relax now and say, to herself and those who believed in her, that she did it.

Dean loves living in the Sutherland Shire. In fact he was born, raised and schooled in the Shire and currently lives with his young family at Engadine. In his younger days he was an accomplished sportsperson and is still actively involved in local amateur sports administration. He operates his own business in the area and is keen to support and promote the wider community in any way.
