Lyndsay and Dale Fuller are just as passionate about their business today as they were when they first started 30 years ago. Their AGL franchise supplies and installs air conditioners, heaters, cook-tops, ovens and BBQs.
Lyndsay started out in business by providing plumbing services, which included contract work for AGL. In 1982, after working closely with AGL for some time, they approached Lyndsay about the possibility of him and wife Dale taking over their Sutherland Shire franchise.
Recognising the benefits of working and being part of a large group, Lyndsay and Dale jumped at the opportunity. Once they had mastered the complexities of their business, they set about making theirs the number one franchise for customer service and sales in the AGL group – an honour that they very proudly hold to this day.
Lyndsay attributes some of the success of their store to the fact that they really do enjoy working and looking after their customers. Another element of their success is the fact that when a customer comes to their store, they not only receive great service but, because nearly every item in their store can be turned on, they also get the opportunity to see and feel how each product looks and works.
As well as showing customers how their appliances work, Lyndsay and Dale conduct live demonstrations and cooking classes using some of the BBQs available for purchase in their store to show customers how they can get the best results from their appliance.
They both feel blessed that they have been able to build a true family business – their daughter is part of their sales team and their son part of their installation team.
According to Lyndsay having the family working together requires effort and understanding, especially when it comes to knowing when it is time for business and when it is time for family.
“Sometimes the business can be all consuming,” Lindsay says. “You need to know when to switch off and just enjoy each other as a family without talking about the business.”
Lyndsay says that he and Dale have a great understanding of each other when it comes to their work – they know when the other needs a rest, assistance or if the other needs to cover for the other.
They are also aware of the growing feeling in the community about energy consumption and are currently working on a new project, Photo Volaics, which is a more economical way of generating electricity to your home, while still remaining environmentally friendly.
In their spare time, the Fullers have a hobby farm they like to get to when they can. However Lyndsay says he can’t see himself ever living there full time as he and Dale love living in the Shire and wouldn’t change a thing about their area or business, other than to let people know that the business they are in is a franchise business and like all good franchise businesses, their business gives their customers the same security and comfort as the big companies.
